Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong (正山小种), internationally known as Lapsang Souchong, is one of the most historic and distinctive red teas from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province, China — the birthplace of Chinese black tea.

Cultivated in the high, mist-covered valleys of the Wuyi range, this tea absorbs the mineral-rich terroir and pure mountain air. What sets it apart is its unique pinewood smoking process, a centuries-old tradition that infuses the leaves with deep, smoky complexity while preserving their natural sweetness.

The result is a bold, full-bodied tea that perfectly balances earthy richness, subtle sweetness, and a refined smokiness — an unforgettable tribute to Wuyi’s ancient craftsmanship.

Taste & Aroma

Infusion: Dark amber with a ruby hue
Aroma: Smoky pinewood, dried fruits, and honeyed malt
Flavor: Bold and layered — smoked wood, dried longan, and molasses, with gentle hints of spice and cocoa
Aftertaste: Lingering warmth with a soft sweetness and light mineral tone

Each sip unfolds a story of mountains, fire, and mastery — a comforting yet powerful experience for true red tea lovers.

Brewing

  • 5 g per 150 ml
  • Water temperature: 90–95 °C
  • Steep for 20–30 seconds
  • Re-infuse up to 6–7 times — flavor becomes smoother and sweeter with each brew

For the best experience, brew in a porcelain gaiwan or Yixing clay teapot, which enhances its depth and smoky aroma.
