Da Hong Pao (大红袍) — Big Red Robe — is one of China's most celebrated and revered oolong teas, grown on mineral-rich rocky cliffs of the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province. For centuries treasured by scholars, emperors, and tea masters, it represents the pinnacle of Yancha (rock tea 岩茶) tradition.
Origin & Character
Origin: Wuyi Mountains, Fujian Province, China | Type: Yancha (rock oolong 大红袍)
Processing: Withering, oxidation, rolling & charcoal roasting
The legendary Da Hong Pao derives its complex character from the unique combination of Wuyi's rocky mineral-rich soil (yan yun 岩韵), mountain mist, and master artisan processing including traditional charcoal roasting. The original Da Hong Pao mother trees on Jiulongke cliff are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural relic — underscoring this tea's extraordinary heritage.
